Clone troopers were clones of a bounty hunter named Jango Fett. They were bred and born on the planet Kamino to serve in the Grand Army of the Republic, and were identical in appearance. They trained and were grown at twice the rate of a regular person. Although they originally appeared as "organic droids", they developed their own personalities during the war, and treated each other as individuals, despite the fact that most citizens did not. They had a strong brotherhood, and were a perfect match against the droid armies of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
While the clones were identical, many of them chose to distinguish themselves by coloring their hair, growing facial hair, or having tattoos. They also individualized themselves by marking their armor with different pictures and paint schemes. Each clone unit had their own unique color scheme for their armor and the clones wielded different kinds of weapons, such as the DC-17 hand blaster, DC-15S blaster carbines and many others.
